Introduction to Sanskrit

We integrate traditional Indian and Western methods to provide an interactive experience of learning Sanskrit. This course is ideal for beginners and those with some experience who would like to reinvigorate their studies. We focus on pronunciation and learning through sound, as well as reading, writing, and a little grammar using chapters from Yogāvatāraṇam: The Translation of Yoga. Joining theory with practice, this course is taught through video lectures, audio, and written material, with weekly assignments to help you learn at home.

Zoë Slatoff

Zoë Slatoff has created and tutors a comprehensive series of Sanskrit courses for the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies. Zoë has a Masters in Asian Languages and Culture from Columbia. She is the author of Yogāvatāraṇam, a Sanskrit textbook for yoga students. Zoë is working on a PhD about the Aparokṣānubhūti – an Advaita Vedāntic text which integrates yoga philosophy, attributed to Ādi Śaṅkarācārya – at Lancaster University. Zoë is the Sanskrit editor for Pushpam Magazine, Nāmarūpa, and Robert Svoboda’s book Vāstu. She teaches daily Mysore classes as well as Sanskrit and yoga philosophy in New York.
