[wpv-autop]In Sanskrit Level 9, we will build upon what we’ve learned in the previous 8 Sanskrit courses, covering Chapters 17 and 18 of Yogāvatāraṇam: The Translation of Yoga.
We will learn about secondary verbal roots, specifically, desideratives, intensives or frequentatives and denominatives. We will also learn the demonstrative pronouns idam and adas and neuter nouns ending in i and u and some irregular declensions. This will allow us to continue to read from texts such as the Bhagavad Gītā, as well as to read from some more early Upaniṣads and verses from haṭha and rāja yoga texts.
At this point we will have learned almost all of the grammatical constructs you need to be able to pick up a text and read on your own.
The OCHS has partnered with Loyola Marymount University’s BCLA Yoga Studies to cross-list continuing education Sanskrit courses taught by Dr. Zoë Slatoff. Students who choose this option will receive continuing education credit from Loyola Marymount University (LMU). Transcripts are available upon request upon successful completion of each course.
Our Sanskrit courses feature three dedicated Zoom sessions.
