Oxford Day Schools Return

Krishna and Arjuna in the Gita
May 4 2023

Prior to Covid, we routinely held day- and weekend-schools in Oxford. An excellent opportunity for students to meet scholars and each other in a convivial environment.

We’re delighted to announce that the first of our post-Covid Day Schools will be running on Sunday 4 June at the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies.

The theme is knowledge acquisition in Hinduism and will be taught exclusively by OCHS staff and alumni. These are:

  • OCHS Academic Director, Prof. Gavin Flood;
  • Sanskritist and Librarian, Dr Rembert Lutjeharms;
  • Research Lecturer and Humanitas Fellow, Dr Jessica Frazier;
  • and one our our first ever PhD students, Dr Kenneth Valpey.

It’s all about how we know what we know.

We may know a lot. But how do we verify these things? Do we trust what our eyes see? Can we reason our way to the truth? Or do we have to learn from authority?

While different Hindu traditions may understand the world differently, they often share an understanding of how to get to that knowledge. And in this day school we examine the science of knowledge and knowledge acquisition as developed in India.
