New Course on Brahma Sutra

Brahma Sutra - an Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies online course
September 25 2024

One of the most exciting Hindu Studies books in recent years has been Aleksandar Uskokov’s Philosophy of the Brahma Sutra.

As a friend of the  Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies Aleksandar agreed to create a course based on this text and we’re happy to report that this, our newest course, is now open for enrolment with each student receiving an e-copy of the book.

What is the Brahma Sutra?

The Brahma-sutra (also known as Vedanta Sutra) systematises the teachings of the Vedas and Upanishads.

Many consider any school of Hindu thought incomplete without a commentary on this foundational text.

The text consists of 555 sutras divided into four chapters addressing knowledge of Brahman. It reconciles the teachings of early Hindu texts and presents them in a coherent and logical framework.

In this course we follow the structure of the Brahma-sutra, considering its authorship, its philosophy and theology, creation, good and evil, meditation, and liberation.
